Digitalization in Tourism as an Opportunity for More Sustainable Tourism
Digitalization in Tourism as an Opportunity for More Sustainable Tourism
Data is a key resource in the pursuit of greater sustainability within the tourism sector. By smartly leveraging data, we pave the way towards achieving Austria's sustainability goals, thereby enhancing climate protection. For instance, by strategically managing visitor flows or efficiently controlling energy consumption, we can better safeguard sensitive environmental areas. At the same time, this approach teaches us how to use resources more sustainably and strengthen local economic value in tourist regions. Demand-oriented mobility services or experiences tailored to specific target groups are just some of the possibilities within the Tourism Data Space.
In the Tourism Data Space, participants retain ownership of their data and have the autonomy to decide how it's used. A responsible approach to handling information and data forms the cornerstone of our work. Through regular exchanges, we cultivate fertile ground for creative solutions in regional, national, and international projects, always maintaining the data sovereignty of all parties involved.
The Tourism Data Space amalgamates information from a wide array of sources, from publicly accessible open data to specific surveys conducted by participating organizations. By bringing together this diverse range of information, we can identify patterns of behavior, better understand needs, and, as a result, finely tune our offerings. Each data asset completes the puzzle of Austria's data landscape, helping us to better see and understand tourism in Austria.
